The new post will build on existing SSEES research in economics and business that takes Central and Eastern Europe and Russia as its region of reference. This post is one of 8 permanent posts within Economics and Business at SSEES.
Individual areas of specialisation include: innovation studies and innovation policy (Prof. Slavo Radošević), macroeconometrics (Dr Svetlana Makarova), health economics and policy (Dr Christopher Gerry), corporate finance (Dr Eugene Nivorozhkin), international trade, FDI, migration (Dr Miriam Manchin), finance and entrepreneurship (Dr Julia Korosteleva).
The successful candidate will be an Economist, Business Economist or Political Economist. Preference may be given to applicants who specialise in one of the following areas: entrepreneurship and innovation, health economics and policy, macroeconomics and growth. As well as interacting with the School’s economists, the successful candidate will be expected, as appropriate, to interact with other scholars across SSEES and UCL.
In addition to conducting research and providing doctoral student supervision, the successful candidate will be required to contribute to teaching on core and specialist courses within the BA and MA programmes. Typical Lecturer loads in the Economics programmes involve 6-8 contact teaching hours per week, delivered during the two 10-week semesters with examination duties undertaken in the third semester.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To contribute to the research activities of SSEES by undertaking projects, regularly producing publications of international excellence, applying for external grants, and participating in seminars and conferences and their organisation at SSEES and in the wider academic community. The Economics Lecturer will be a member of the SSEES Centre for Comparative Economics.
- To contribute to knowledge-exchange activities through collaboration and engagement with international and national organisations in government, finance, business, the NGO sector and others
- To teach and develop courses in Economics and/or Business programmes at both undergraduate and graduate level
- To supervise BA and MA student dissertations
- To engage in postgraduate research supervision
- To contribute to the pastoral care of students
- To play a full role in the academic administrative work of SSEES and UCL
- To follow and promote UCL policies, including Equal Opportunities
Person Specification
Essential qualifications and experience
- a doctoral degree in economics
- a record of published original and high quality research
- demonstrable potential to maintain a strong research record through publication, external grant funding, and active participation in international conferences
- excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
- previous experience of teaching at university level
- at least working knowledge – or commitment to acquire knowledge – of one of the languages spoken in the SSEES region
